Monique Hayward Feeds the Masses—Both Mentally and Physically
As President and CEO of Nouveau Connoisseurs Corporation, Monique Shares Her Experience Through Divas Doing Business: What Guidebooks Don’t Tell You About Being a Woman Entrepreneur
With more than 15 years experience in marketing, communications, public relations, business development and entrepreneurship, you’d probably be surprised to find Monique Hayward owning and operating the Dessert Noir Café & Bar in Beaverton, Oregon. Yet when you consider that since 2004 she’s been President and Chief Executive Officer of Nouveau Connoisseurs Corporation, the position seems a perfect fit. Recently, however, Monique tapped into her communications background to author her first book Divas Doing Business: What Guidebooks Don’t Tell You About Being a Woman Entrepreneur.
Not only does Monique understand the challenges of running her own business, but she’s also retained her day job as senior marketing manager at Intel Corporation. It is only natural then, that she shares with other women entrepreneurs the timely, relevant, real-world information about business ownership she was looking for during her climb. For example, Monique offers techniques and strategies for raising money without sounding (or feeling) like a little girl asking daddy for an allowance. In Divas Doing Business, Monique profiles 10 pioneering women who pass on their hard-won knowledge and share with aspiring entrepreneurs just what it takes to start and manage a business and to see it thrive and succeed.
This isn’t the first time Monique has been recognized for her business skills. In fact, she was selected as a winner in the 2008 Make Mine a Million $ Business Race—which is joining together with NAWBO at this year’s national conference. The award provided her with a combination of money, mentoring, marketing and technology tools to help grow her business into a million-dollar enterprise. She has also been featured in the Portland Business Journal’s 2009 “40 Under 40” award honoring the area’s young business leaders and entrepreneurs.
